Senate Committee Representation

New Opportunity to Serve AP Employees and Take Part in Campus Governance!

CAP and UIUC Senate recently agreed on a change to UIUC Senate procedures.
Now, UIUC Senate Committees will have an academic professional member who
will represent academic professionals and serve as a liaison from the Senate
Committee to CAP.

Senate Executive Committee : The CAP chair will act as liaison to the Senate Executive Committee.
The executive committee of the Senate, it initiates and guides the work of the Senate, coordinates and reviews the activities of Senate standing and ad hoc committees, prepares the agenda for Senate meetings, and reports to the faculty at the annual meeting.

The Senate committees (and their purposes) to which academic professionals may be elected:

  1. Admissions
    Considers matters of policy concerning campus standards and procedures for admissions and advises the Director of Admissions.

  2. Budget
    Studies trends in the state and national budgets that may affect the University, the budgets of the University and this campus, and the criteria followed in determining budgetary needs and in allocating resources; and examines the effects of budget decisions on educational policy and academic programs.

  3. Campus Operations
    Considers needs and concerns pertaining to campus administrative operations that affect the academic environment and activities; examines trends in campus operations in higher education and recommends appropriate policy changes.

  4. Continuing Education and Public Service
    Examines existing and possible future University continuing education and public service programs, making appropriate recommendations.

  5. Educational Policy
    Examines matters such as degree programs, curricula changes, degree requirements, grading regulations, review and evaluation of experimental educational programs, budgetary implications of the foregoing, and other policy issues.

  6. Equal Opportunity
    Develops, encourages, and evaluates equal opportunity programs and guidelines directed toward improving the representation of disadvantaged and minority groups.

  7. Faculty Benefits
    Investigates and reports on provisions for salaries, retirement benefits, savvatical leaves, health insurance, life insurance, investment and savings plans, travel reimbursement, housing benefits, educational benefits, and employment conditions.

  8. General University Policy
    Studies and reports on a wide range of University-level issues as they relate to this campus, including budget trends affecting the quality of the University, educational policy relating to changes in academic units, allocation of resources, and the formulation of policy in anticipation of major societal changes.

  9. Information Technology

  10. University Statutes and Senate Procedures
    Reviews proposed amendments to the University Statutes, the Senate Constitution and Bylaws, and General Rules Concerning University Organizations and Procedures; oversees Senate elections and appoints Senate parliamentarian.

  11. University Student Life
    Advises the Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs on the needs and concerns of students; reviews campus recreational programs and facilities, making appropriate recommendations.
